Nuratu QuarshieSalifu, nickcnamed Nura, is a sophomore and involved in the African Union and the International Club. While talking to other family members at different colleges, the idea of “Paint with a twist” came to mind. But to Nura’s attention the “twist” (alcohol) wouldn’t be so appropriate, so she decided to reinvent something so students can enjoy a lovely time and paint: Sip and Paint, which took place on February 14th at 6 p.m. She sat down with Kiva Nice-Webb, and they helped get the event promoted and out there for students to see.
“I wanted Sip and Paint to be an event where people come and express themselves in painting. Even if they feel that they don’t have any creativity, we don’t judge. We want people to relax their minds and be free,” said Nura.
This was an event that was supposed to happen last semester but the idea fell through. Nura powered through and created an event that was very successful. There were cookies, brownies, juice, music, and all the paint supplies were there for the painters. All they need to bring was their bodies and be ready to paint.
Sometime in April, Nura wants to plan another Sip and Paint event because of all the positive feedback she has gotten from her first one. Hopefully there will be more organizations to collaborate with so that this event can be bigger for more of the students to enjoy on campus.
